NAFCU closed for Memorial Day
NAFCU’s offices will be closed Monday in observance of Memorial Day. Credit union members will still have access to the association’s website for resources as well as regulatory and legislative updates on key issue areas.
Here are a few recent updates from NAFCU to be aware of:
NAFCU celebrates CUs’ commitment to military members: In celebration of Military Appreciation Month, NAFCU is hosting a sweepstakes promotion where credit unions have the opportunity to enter a submission at nafcu.org/nafcunation discussing how they support members of the military and/or military families. Submissions will be entered for a chance to win one $1,000 donation made by NAFCU to a military-focused charity of the credit union’s choice. Submissions must be in by June 2 at 11:59 p.m. Eastern (see Official Rules).
Survey deadline approaching: There is still time to submit feedback to this month’s Economic and CU Monitor survey on fraud. NAFCU relies on survey responses to provide its members a glimpse of trends affecting the credit union industry and inform the association’s advocacy efforts; responses are due June 7.
Invaluable compliance resource now available: The 2023 Credit Union Compliance Roadmap has just been released! The Roadmap simplifies complex credit union regulations into easy-to-understand language. Updates to this edition include NCUA supervisory priorities for 2023, revised regulatory thresholds, Credit Union Governance Modernization Act implementation, and more. NAFCU Today will resume publication Tuesday, May 30.

[02:27] Having a leader who can really communicate cyber risks and understand how ready that institution is to deal with cyber events is incredibly important. [05:36] We need to be talking about risk openly. We need to be documenting and really understanding what remediating risk looks like and how you do that strategically. [16:38] Governance, risk, compliance, and adherence to regulatory controls are all being looked at much more closely. You are also seeing other technology that is coming into the fold directly responsible for helping CISOs navigate those waters. [18:28] The reaction from the governing bodies is directly related to the needs of the position. They’re trying to help make sure that we are positioned in a way that gets us the most possibility of success, maturing our postures and protecting the institutions.
