Today: NCUA webinar on ADA, financial inclusion

NCUAThe NCUA today is hosting a webinar focused on financial inclusion for people with disabilities in recognition of the 30th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

NCUA Chairman Rodney Hood will be joined by National Disability Institute Director Michael Morris and RespectAbility President Jennifer Laszlo Mizrahi to discuss how credit unions can ensure disabled individuals have equal access to opportunities and resources.

"As we commemorate the anniversary of the ADA, the NCUA reaffirms its commitment to creating an inclusive work environment for all employees and ensuring equal access to the 12.2 percent of our staff who report having a disability," Hood said. "We are committed to providing access to services, tools, and needed resources to perform their jobs effectively and reach their full career potential."

The webinar is slated to begin at 2 p.m. Eastern; registration is available here.

NAFCU and its members strongly support the protections of the ADA and the association continues to seek clear guidance and standards related to website accessibility from the Department of Justice (DOJ) and Congress to ensure credit unions are not targeted by lawsuits.

NAFCU Senior Regulatory Affairs Counsel Kaley Schafer recently wrote a Compliance Blog post with ADA compliance considerations amid the coronavirus pandemic. The association has additional ADA resources available online.
